Cars in German Town Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities stated they were notified by a man who found a car in Hanau marked with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Police say they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.

The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then located numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say preliminary tests show the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.

Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for tips.

A high-ranking representative stated the incident left him speechless and required to be addressed quickly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
